The central theme is cards that do something immediately when you buy them or gain them.

Dominion: Hinterlands is an expansion and cannot be played by itself; to play with it you need Dominion or a standalone expansion to Dominion (e.g. Dominion: Intrigue).

Dominion Board Game

Dominion

  • two-4 player game
  • 30 minutes to play
  • Tactical Card game
  • Huge replay worth
  • Fast to understand, several techniques to win

In Dominion, every player begins with an identical, extremely little deck of cards. In the center of the table is a selection of other cards the players can “acquire” as they can afford them.

Through their choice of cards to purchase, and how they play their hands as they draw them, the players construct their deck on the fly, striving for the most effective path to the precious victory points by game finish.

You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams.

You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion. In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums.

All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner.

But wait. It must be something in the air, several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way.

To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn’t be proud, but your grandparents, would be delighted.

Oregon Boardgame

  • For two to four players
  • Play time of 45 minutes
  • Western expansion theme
  • It is a board game
  • Household and technique game

The year is 1846. Gunslingers, lawmen, pioneers and whole families left their households in the east and midwest to attempt their luck in the West.

They loaded their covered wagons with all they could and headed west across steppes, deserts, and mountains.

Several chose to settle in Oregon, in which the farming and hunting was plentiful and they could stake out a bit of land for themselves. The players have already reached Oregon and gaze upon the wealthy farmland below and the potential gold and coal reserves of the mountains.

They build ports on the lakes and rivers, churches, warehouses, post offices, and train stations on the plains. And, of course, they must farm the rich land to grow the food necessary for the area to grow and thrive.

To win, a player must choose the right times to farm and the right times to build, for planning is necessary, even here in the untamed wilderness of Oregon.

Oregon Boardgame

I haven’t played this game as much because there are plenty of other games out there. That being said, however, this is a pretty good game because it covers the basics and it doesn’t take a lot of time to play.

Rio Grande Games always make games with excellent production values and Oregon boardgame is no exception. If you are in the market for another game, consider Oregon boardgame for your collection.
